VoY STC (Stories that breed the change we need)
The culture of storytelling is gradually fading away from the African society. Parents no longer sit together with their children and grandchildren to tell them beautiful stories. Even schools no longer make story telling a part of their school programs. Today we have many children and youths who can’t tell a single story. Story telling is educative and each story has a message to pass. In ancient Arica, stories were told round the fire site to pass a message of peace, reconciliation, Justice, equality, communalism and love. Stories of tribes going to war were told to educate the listeners and readers on the effects of war. Stories of co-wives fighting each other were either told to discourage polygamy or peace among those involved in polygamy
The VOY story telling competition is aimed at bringing back this old culture of storytelling among young people. Through this competition, VOY seems to understand young people’s view on certain subjects. Young people can tell stories which can ignite a change. We are seeking for stories based on local realities.
The VOY Storytelling Competition is monthly with each month having a sponsor. Winners (2) of each month receive cash and material prizes while their stories are published on the website of VOY.
The Competition shall rap up each year with a grand championship where winners of previous months are invited to tell their stories before an audience and the best three stories receive prizes
