The Conversation: Participants Encouraged to Read

Home / News / The Conversation: Participants Encouraged to Read

The reading culture among youths is lamentedly low. The culture of reading is gradually fading away and being replaced by movies, video games and social media. This has greatly affected the way youths reason. It has also affected their ability to write and prevented them from discovering the hidden treasures in books. Most youths only read for the sake of examinations and after that, their books are thrown away.

As part of the activities of the conversation, we ensure that children have access to books especially those that inform them of their environment and help them overcome the challenges they face. During the last session of the conversation hosted by the Voices of the Young in partnership with Great-8 Cameroon, participants were given the opportunity to read some books, share lessons learned as well as new words. It was a rich experience as participants promised to acquire more books which will add value to their lives.
