On 21 September 2024, Voices of the Young proudly joined the global celebration of the International Day of Peace under the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace”. As an organisation dedicated to empowering young people to lead peacebuilding initiatives, we embraced this year’s theme by facilitating an enriching dialogue on how we can foster a peaceful society.
Participants from our ongoing programme, The Conversation, gathered for an interactive session focused on sharing ideas and practical steps to foster peace in their communities. The session featured inspiring videos, including the UN Secretary-General’s 2024 Address, which highlighted the critical role of individuals and communities in promoting peace. These resources served as a springboard for further discussion on how each of us can take action to create lasting harmony.
Our coordinator, Mr Ntui Oben Obi, also took the opportunity to share some exciting plans in line with our commitment to peacebuilding. He announced upcoming training programmes, scholarships for participants and free mentoring opportunities. These initiatives aim to keep the peace dialogue alive and to equip young people with the skills and knowledge they need to contribute to conflict resolution efforts in their local communities.
As we reflect on the significance of this day, Voices of the Young reaffirms its commitment to creating spaces where young people can engage in meaningful conversations about peace, justice and reconciliation. Together we can cultivate a culture of peace that transcends borders, ideologies and conflicts.
Join us on the journey towards a peaceful future!
