Background
In the groundbreaking year of 2023, Voices of the Young (VOY) initiated its inaugural Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop in Conflict Transformation. This groundbreaking workshop, the first of its kind, united eleven participants from diverse professional backgrounds. The TOT was meticulously crafted to sharpen the facilitation skills of participants, addressing the challenges often faced by facilitators during workshops. These challenges have historically hindered participants from fully grasping workshop content, a gap that VOY, with its seasoned facilitators, aims to bridge. Workshops organized by VOY are known for their engaging nature, offering participants a platform to reflect and collaboratively search for solutions to everyday problems.
Following the success of the first VOY TOT in Conflict Transformation, participants voiced a compelling need for more follow-up workshops. Responding to these requests and others, VOY revisited its approach, aiming to make the TOT more sustainable. This background sets the stage for VOY’s commitment to building the capacity of more participants in the art of facilitation.
GOAL
The overarching goal of the VOY TOT is to build the capacity of participants, introducing them to more engaging facilitation methods that will yield better workshop outcomes.
OBJECTIVES
- Build and reinforce the capacity of participants on facilitation.
- Introduce participants to participatory training methods.
Methodology
The VOY TOT workshop will employ a blend of participatory and interactive methods, including:
- Interactive Lectures: 20% of the training dedicated to theoretical aspects delivered through engaging lectures.
- Discussions and Group Work: Participants will actively participate in discussions and collaborate on group activities.
- Brainstorming: Creative thinking sessions to ignite innovative ideas and solutions.
- Case Studies and Practical Exercises: 80% of the training focused on hands-on, practical exercises to ensure participants acquire tangible skills.
Participants will be expected to organize their own workshops at the conclusion of the training.

Gratifying and Inspiring
The TOT was truly a great experience. The expectations I had about the event were surpassed as we participants had quality facilitation and a beautiful atmosphere all through the session. The organisers did everything for the event to be the best possible for all of us and took into account every little details. For instance, they offered us beautiful roses on February 14th which was Valentine’s day and also made a surprise birthday cake for one of the participants on the following day. The atmosphere was really good all through and it helped we participants to make the most out of the event and I’m eager to attend the next sessions. With the quality facilitation we had and the knowledge obtained, I have gained new techniques to keep workshops I facilitate livelier. I still have more to learn from Voices of the Young and there is no doubt that with all what I will learn I will in turn become a great facilitator too.

The TOT Cohort II 2024 was amazing. I got to learn many new things such as the dos and don’ts of Facilitation, the differences between Facilitation and Lecturing, how to prepare flipcharts for a workshop and so much more.
