The Voices of the Young Initiative (VOY) have carried out a street dialogue exercise on the topic “A Safe Bokwai for All”. This comes as part of the implementation plan of activities following some weeks of training session on Street Dialogue offered and supported by UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding Unesco Apceiu through the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Program.
The street action that took place on September 3rd 2022 at Bokwai in Buea, Cameroon was aimed at getting the opinions of youths as well as elderly persons of the said community about drug abuse. Following the backdrop of drug abuse in the community, the members of the VOY asked three key questions to passers-by:
1. What are the consequences of drug abuse?
2. What are the advantages of drug abuse?
3. Who is responsible for drug abuse?
Results from this action are meant for sensitization and understanding of how to mitigate high crime waves, unwanted pregnancies, increase in school dropouts and other ills plaguing the local community.
This action benefited from the collaborative efforts of the G-8 Initiative Cameroon, members of The Conversation, the Chief of Bokwai and the community.
